Threads of Resilience | Exhibition + Performance | Resistance Bazaar
16.Dezember 2023 15:00 - 22:00
Organised by Diaspora Rising Collective
We heard it from Bethlehem: Christmas is cancelled! So come join the Resistance Bazaar!
Where we come together to practice solidarity through Art and Exchange. Resistance through art is as old as time itself, with communication and expressions at its core. When we feel silenced and repressed, we might find comfort and understanding in the creative realm. We can challenge authority through images in ways texts cannot.
When the world is responding to the deaths of Palestinian lives and the ongoing genocide, we can respond with our art. Artwork can also be about showcasing joy or normal moments because joy is a form of resistance. While fighting systemic issues, we’ve been denied joy, a critical part of living life. The very act of choosing to focus on "joy" through community care within the struggle is choosing not only to survive, but to thrive in the face of those very systemic issues.
The Resistance Bazaar is a solidarity event that is part of Oyoun’s 3-day festival. Oyoun is facing repression by the state for standing in solidarity with Palestine. In light of this, we wanted to bring the struggle and resistance movement together nearing the end of the year.
We stand in solidarity with the basic human right of the freedom of speech and expression.
This evening, we aim to recreate the essence of a Bazaar as a meeting point for social and political dialogue, and a place where not only goods are exchanged, but information and culture. With that in mind, we’ve put together a programme for you that includes healing workshops, music, theatrical interventions, and a political drag show.

This event is part of the Threads of Resilience Festival
Given the current situation and urgency to express, we decided to co-organise a community-led and collectively curated 3-day festival “Threads of Resilience” from 14-16 December at Oyoun. Those include a press conference, bazaar, panels, film screening, talks, exhibition, workshops, concerts, healing session, theater, puppet show for children, and parties. With this festival, we want to reflect on and learn from movements of resistance, resilience, and solidarity across the world and come together for three days of ephemerality and collaborative archiving. We want to address and speak out against repression, silencing, instrumentalisation, and division. We need to continue to empower, promote, and celebrate pluralistic perspectives from, with, and intersectionally marginalised communities.Admission is based on free donation (nobody will be denied entry if they cannot donate). All proceeds will be given to organizations in support of victims of racist police violence and to organizations giving legal support to people threatened with deportation.
Oyoun is constantly working to make access to all events offered in the building as barrier-free as possible. For individual information on accessibility, please send us an email to access(at)oyoun.de. We will get back to you as soon as possible. More info on this topic here.
At Oyoun there is no place for sexism, queerphobia, transphobia, any form of racism or discrimination such as anti-Black, anti-Muslim racism or antisemitism. The same applies to any kind of violent, aggressive or assaultive behaviour. Oyoun provides an open forum for dialogue and a place where we support and stand up for each other.
