SUMMARY:Threads of Resilience | Panel Talk | Ersatznationalismus: on the instrumentalisation of Jewish fear and Antisemitism
DESCRIPTION:Organised by Oyoun \nEmilia Roig\, Candice Breitz and Iris Hefets will critically explore how expressions of philosemitism in Germany are increasingly being used as a tool for political and social agendas\, often targeting and marginalizing other groups such as Muslims\, Arabs\, Palestinians\, and various racialized minorities. In this conversation\, they will shed light on the ways in which Jewish identity and the fear of antisemitism are instrumentalized\, sometimes serving as a cover for xenophobic and nationalistic sentiments.
It seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the implications for various communities\, fostering a dialogue that is both inclusive and critically aware of the complex realities in Germany today. \nTickets: Donation-based\nRegistration: First come\, first served\nLanguage: English\nRoom: R1: Galerie Lameck \nBiographies \nCandice Breitz \nCandice Breitz (born in Johannesburg\, 1972) is a Berlin-based artist. Her moving image installations have been shown internationally. Throughout Breitz’s career\, she has explored the dynamics by means of which an individual becomes him or herself in relation to a larger community\, be that the immediate community that one encounters in family\, or the real and imagined communities that are shaped not only by questions of national belonging\, race\, gender and religion\, but also by the increasingly undeniable influence of mainstream media such as television\, cinema and other popular culture. Most recently\, Breitz’s work has focused on the conditions under which empathy is produced\, reflecting on a media-saturated global culture in which strong identification with fictional characters and celebrity figures runs parallel to widespread indifference to the plight of those facing real world adversity. In 2022\, she completed The White Noise Trilogy \, a trio of multichannel video installations that includes Love Story (2016)\, TLDR (2017) and Whiteface (2022). \nEmilia Roig \nEmilia Roig (she/her) is the Founder and Executive Director of the Berlin-based Center for Intersectional Justice (CIJ)\, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting justice\, equality and a life free from systemic oppression for all. Her experience growing up in a multiracial Algerian-Jewish-Martinique family in France shaped her commitment and passion for intersectional social justice. Emilia is a faculty member of DePaul University of Chicago's Social Justice Study Abroad Program and has taught graduate and postgraduate courses in Intersectional Theory\, Postcolonial Studies\, Critical Race Theory\, Queer Feminism\, and International and European Law at universities across Europe. She holds a PhD in Political Science\, a Masters of Public Policy and an MBA in International Law. Before her doctorate\, she worked extensively on human rights issues at the UN in Tanzania and Uganda\, at the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Cambodia and at Amnesty International in Germany - and decided to leave the field of "development" to focus on focus on social justice in Europe. Emilia has also given numerous keynotes\, lectures and interviews at major conferences and events and was a jury member for the German Non-Fiction Prize 2020 and the 25 Women Award of Edition F in 2019 and was named an Ashoka Fellow in 2020. \nIris Hefets \nIris Hefets was born in Israel and has lived in Berlin for 21 years. She is a board member of Jüdische Stimme für gerechten Frieden in Nahost and works as a psychoanalyst in Neukölln. \n--- \nThis event is part of the Threads of Resilience Festival \nGiven the current situation and urgency to express\, we decided to co-organise a community-led and collectively curated 3-day festival “Threads of Resilience” from 14-16 December at Oyoun. Those include a press conference\, bazaar\, panels\, film screening\, talks\, exhibition\, workshops\, concerts\, healing session\, theater\, puppet show for children\, and parties. With this festival\, we want to reflect on and learn from movements of resistance\, resilience\, and solidarity across the world and come together for three days of ephemerality and collaborative archiving. We want to address and speak out against repression\, silencing\, instrumentalisation\, and division. We need to continue to empower\, promote\, and celebrate pluralistic perspectives from\, with\, and intersectionally marginalised communities.Admission is based on free donation (nobody will be denied entry if they cannot donate). All proceeds will be given to organizations in support of victims of racist police violence and to organizations giving legal support to people threatened with deportation. \nAccessibility: \nOyoun is constantly working to make access to all events offered in the building as barrier-free as possible. For this event a simultaneous DGS (German Sign Language) translation has been organised. Our team can guide you to the designated seating area. For individual information on accessibility\, please send us an email to access(at)oyoun.de. We will get back to you as soon as possible. More info on this topic here. \nAwareness: \nAt Oyoun there is no place for sexism\, queerphobia\, transphobia\, any form of racism or discrimination such as anti-Black\, anti-Muslim racism or antisemitism. The same applies to any kind of violent\, aggressive or assaultive behaviour. Oyoun provides an open forum for dialogue and a place where we support and stand up for each other. SUMMARY:Threads of Resilience | Exhibition + Performance | Resistance Bazaar
DESCRIPTION:Organised by Diaspora Rising Collective \nWe heard it from Bethlehem: Christmas is cancelled!  So come join the Resistance Bazaar!  \nWhere we come together to practice solidarity through Art and Exchange. Resistance through art is as old as time itself\, with communication and expressions at its core. When we feel silenced and repressed\, we might find comfort and understanding in the creative realm. We can challenge authority through images in ways texts cannot.  \nWhen the world is responding to the deaths of Palestinian lives and the ongoing genocide\, we can respond with our art. Artwork can also be about showcasing joy or normal moments because joy is a form of resistance. While fighting systemic issues\, we’ve been denied joy\, a critical part of living life. The very act of choosing to focus on "joy" through community care within the struggle is choosing not only to survive\, but to thrive in the face of those very systemic issues.  \n\nThe Resistance Bazaar is a solidarity event that is part of Oyoun’s 3-day festival. Oyoun is facing repression by the state for standing in solidarity with Palestine. In light of this\, we wanted to bring the struggle and resistance movement together nearing the end of the year.  \nWe stand in solidarity with the basic human right of the freedom of speech and expression.  \nThis evening\, we aim to recreate the essence of a Bazaar as a meeting point for social and political dialogue\, and a place where not only goods are exchanged\, but information and culture. With that in mind\, we’ve put together a programme for you that includes healing workshops\, music\, theatrical interventions\, and a political drag show.  \nUntil liberation\,  \nDiaspora Rising \nTicket: Donation-based\nLanguage: English\nRoom: Club\, Souterrain \nTimetable \nBazaar (The Club)\n15:00    Bazaar Kick Off | DJ Set\n17:00 -19:00  Soraya B2B DMITRA \n18:00 - 19:20 "Bodies that Exist" | Theatrical Intervention by AQUITheater\n19:30 - 21:00 Border CTRL Show | Dragshow\n21:00 - Bazaar Closing\n22:00 - Music Curfew -> Ballroom Party Takeover \n  \nThis event is part of the Threads of Resilience Festival \nGiven the current situation and urgency to express\, we decided to co-organise a community-led and collectively curated 3-day festival “Threads of Resilience” from 14-16 December at Oyoun. Those include a press conference\, bazaar\, panels\, film screening\, talks\, exhibition\, workshops\, concerts\, healing session\, theater\, puppet show for children\, and parties. SUMMARY:Threads of Resilience | Workshops | Resistance Bazaar
DESCRIPTION:Organised by Diaspora Rising Collective\n\nAs part of the Resistance Bazaar\, there will be two workshops: \nEndurance Workshop led by Zïada | R4 | 14:00-16:00 | For BPoC activists and organisers\nIn this workshop\, we hold space for questions that particularly organisers and activists of the global majority don’t get to ask themselves and check-in often enough (if at all): what do I bring to the movement? What am I driven and motivated by? Which ecosystems nurture and are needed to resources me? How to avoid activists burn out by myself and peers? How can we bear witness to the unbearable? \nThis workshop won’t answer all the questions\, but it brings us and the wealth of wisdom and experience together - the ones that have come before us and ourselves - in order to build endurance for the long term vision of dismantling imperialism and the various intersecting forms of oppressions. It’s a marathon and not a sprint. \nWho is this is for: BPoC activists and organisers\, tell your activist/organiser friends that may need this!\nWhat to bring: Notebook\, water and whatever you need to settle for 2 hours \nPlease sign up until Friday\, 14. December 6pm.  \nBodywork & Healing Techniques by Workshop by AnaH | R3 |16:30-18:00 | open to all\nIn terrible times many people experience either high levels of nervousness/not being able to calm down at all / lack of sleep or a kind of inner numbness. Pain of all kinds increases. This mini seminar is about exchanging what helps and practicing simple techniques that are effective in order to better cope with all of these symptoms and to be better able to be present for each other and remain able to act together. Trauma therapist Anna Hoffmann is convinced that trauma is always linked to systemic injustice and that it usually makes sense to approach it collectively. Open to everyone / max 35 participants / without registration. Once we have started the workshop it is no longer possible to join.\n \nTickets: Donation-based\nRegistration: Endurance Workshop: please register here. \nBodywork & Healing Techniques: No registration for the bodywork workshop needed\, fist come\, first served\n\nLanguage: English\nRoom: R3 (Bodywork & Healing Techniques) and R4 (Endurance Workshop) \nBiographies \nZïada\nZïada (she/they) is a community organiser\, sound artist\, dream weaver and visionary.  \nIt took her several burn outs until she decided to learn more on how to build sustainable\, long term commitments for collective liberation and building more just\, generative and creative futures.  \nShe trained in the field of “Regenerative Activism” (ULEX)\, Organising for Power (Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung) and “Transformation Design” (Transformationsakademie)\, but mostly gathered practical knowledge from grassroots and front line organising. SUMMARY:Threads of Resilience | Workshop | Grandmother of the Universe
DESCRIPTION:Organised by Jamila Al-Yousef  \nIn this workshop we will connect with our grandmothers through games and writing exercises. Under which circumstances did they grew up and became the women* who brought our parents into the world? And how are they embedded in our identity? \nWhat do we know about them and what would we like to explore? \nWe come together to share stories\, love\, pain\, curiosity and memories. \nWe come together to reflect who we are today and how this relates to what our female* ancestors sacrificed. \nWe honor not only which trauma but also which resilience was passed on to us by them. \nThis workshop was created as part of the theatre productions „Grandmothers of the Universe“ (2020) and „Grandmothers of the Future“ (2021) that Jamila Al-Yousef was part of as composer and performer. \nTicket: Donation-based\nRegistration: No registration | first come\, first served\nLanguage: English\nRoom: Kahina \nBiography \nJamila Al-Yousef is a singer\, festival curator\, and cultural activist from Berlin. Inspired by her Palestinian father who came to Germany as a refugee\, she early started creating postcolonial projects to share diverse perspectives on West Asia and North Africa. SUMMARY:Threads of Resilience | Film Screening + Talk | Silent Narratives: Unveiling the Unheard
DESCRIPTION:Organised by Jüdische Stimme + Pa_allies \nFilm screening followed by a talk by Dr. Anna-Esther Younes\, Salah Said (Pa_allies)\, Udi Raz (Jüdische Stimme) \nThe NGO "Breaking the Silence" - BtS for short - is made up of former Israeli servicemen and women who want to draw attention to everyday military life and the treatment of the population in the occupied territories by collecting personal memoirs. With her film\, director Silvina Landsmann provides a look behind the scenes of a controversial group with a controversial approach in the midst of a conflict that has been smouldering for over 70 years. \nWhat makes a good soldier? The ability to follow orders without scruples or the consideration of higher moral goals when dealing with the enemy? For many members of BtS\, the latter was only possible after their active military service. In their work\, they deal with missions and actions that seem wrong to them today. They address the Israeli population and foreign media with videos\, lectures and city tours. On the streets of Hebron\, there are repeated clashes between BtS\, Israeli settlers and the military. The organisation is also sharply criticised at a political level. It is accused of fabricating stories\, damaging Israel's reputation and playing into the hands of anti-Semitism. With sober filmic images\, Landsmann observes how the group fights for its voice\, both externally and internally.  \nTickets: Donation-based\nPlease register for this event here\nLanguage: The documentary film will be shown with German subtitles. The panel discussion will be held in English.\nRoom: Main Hall \nBiographies \nAnna-Esther Younes \nDr. Anna-Esther Younes is a scholar of race critical theories\, using psychoanalytic approaches and post-/colonial theory. In 2016\, she received a summa cum laude for her PhD thesis “Race\, Colonialism and the Figure of the Jew in a New Germany” from IHEID (Geneva\, CH\, 2015). Younes defines her work through the (anthropological) concept of “researching home” and “researching up to power”. Younes also holds the position of a lay judge in Berlin's youth court and has founded and organized the Colloquium of Color in Berlin for several years. Her academic\, journalistic and policy work can also be found on academia.edu. \nWebsite \nSalah Said (pa_allies) \nSalah Said\, a Berlin-based Palestinian\, became known in Berlin through his "WorldCitizen e.V." association\, a non-profit organisation that focuses on diversity & inclusion and youth education. Salah studied political science and sociology\, worked in sustainability for 9+ years in companies such as SCHUFA\, SAP\, Zalando\, and Klarna and supported young entrepreneurs such as "Tip Me" and "Conflictfood" at "Social Impact". He is a member of a group of volunteers from Berlin\, Palestinians and allies (Instagram: @Pa_allies) who stand in solidarity with Palestine and are committed to liberation and justice. \nUdi Raz (Jüdische Stimme) \nUdi Raz is a doctoral fellow at the Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies. There she investigates the contemporary self-understanding of Germany\, as a nation state\, as emerges through public attempts to regulate encounters beween 'Muslims' and 'Jews'. She grew up in Haifa\, between Tel-Aviv and Beirut. Her work is shaped by local and global\, anti- and decolonial\, as well as queer liberation movements. She has lived in Berlin since 2010\, where she first studied Culture and History of the Middle East and then Islamic Studies at the Free University Berlin. Raz is a board member of the Germany based organization Jewish Voice for Just Peace in the Middle East. DESCRIPTION:Organised by Lana Bastašić \nHUMAN\, ANIMAL: Reading and Conversation with Poet Ghayath Almadhoun \nModeration: Lana Bastašić \nDo wars ever truly end? He is the child of Congolese-Angolan parents and grew up between Berlin and London. Batila's music (Batila means protector) is "soulphisticated\, colourful and lively". In addition to numerous live concerts all over the world\, his debut album 'Tatamana' was released in November 2021\, which was recorded between Berlin and Kinshasa in the DRC.
