SUMMARY:LOOK AT ME : Syrien in Fotografie und in Erzählung - Photo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Der syrische Aufstand und der darauffolgende Krieg gehören vielleicht zu den visuell am besten dokumentierten Ereignissen der modernen Geschichte. Es gibt erschütternde Bilder\, die sich in die Psyche der Menschen eingebrannt haben. Das Bild von Aylan Kurdi\, der leblos an einem türkischen Strand liegt. Drohnenbilder von zerbombten syrischen Krankenhäusern und Städten. Aber das ist nicht alles\, was Syrien ausmacht\, und für viele Syrer*innen werden dies nie die Bilder sein\, die ein Land oder eine Generation definieren. \nDie Ausstellung "LOOK AT ME: 10 Scenes from Syria" mit Fotografien von syrischen Fotograf*innen soll den Beginn einer Debatte ermöglichen und einen Einblick in die persönliche Perspektive syrischer Fotograf*innen geben\, die einige Bilder ihres Landes vor und während des Konflikts eingefangen haben. SUMMARY:Backbone - سند الظهر - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:"Backbone" is a multidisciplinary exhibition by Lebanese artist Mazen Khaddaj. The show is a collection of video performances\, multichannel installations\, and documentation that signifies the relationship with his father\, and his death in December 2020.⁣ After a long and heavy battle with COVID19\, his dad surrendered and left him at the age of sixty-three. His passing was like an earthquake that shook Mazen's reality and left him broken. \nBook yourself a time slot to visit the exhibition here \nMazen's dad\, Melhem\, was a traditional Arab father that worked tirelessly to provide for his family. For many years\, until his death\, he worked every day in his shop in Aley\, Mount Lebanon. Melhem was a man of faith and very respected in his town\, he was also strict with his children and required a lot of attention. He was kind towards his family and friends and loved them fiercely\, but hid his feelings way beneath his tough exterior. He was noticeably very proud of Mazen's only and eldest brother\, Hassan. Hassan got married\, had a child\, and took over the family business. \n"How could I have told my dad who I was? I already looked different\, I wore tight clothes and had non-traditional artistic hobbies. I was soft and sensitive and kept my sexuality hidden in a tightly sealed closet. Melhem always associated my lifestyle and looks with an artist's way of life.  He was not interested in my art\, but he cared about me and supported me financially in my endeavors"\n- Mazen about his father. \n"Backbone" is an explosion of grief and other unprocessed emotions stemming from Mazen´s childhood into his adult years. With this show\, he opens his world and depicts the story of a gay Arab boy and his conservative father. The exhibition is in memory of his beloved dad\, Melhem Khaddaj. \nBook yourself a time slot to visit the exhibition here \n*** \nAbout the artist \nMazen Khaddaj (b. 1985) is a multidisciplinary Lebanese artist working in painting\, performance\, video art\, and installation. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from the American University of Science and Technology in Beirut in 2008. His background includes working as an Art Director in multinational advertising companies for several years before eventually dedicating himself fully to the arts.  \nMazen started his artistic journey in the medium of painting. He exhibited his first solo show ‘Bonds’ at Art Circle (Beirut) in 2013. Eventually\, he would move into a more multidisciplinary approach\, showcasing video performances in addition to paintings\, such as his second solo show ‘The Middle State’ which was exhibited both at 392Rmeil393 Gallery (Gemmayze\, Beirut) and at the University of Balamand Gallery (Lebanon) in 2015. These were followed by the exhibition ‘Emotion in Motion’ at Artspace Hamra (Beirut) in 2016 that featured ‘The Eye’\, an installation project featuring five videos depicting the relationship between individuality and society. ‘The Eye’ is now part of the permanent collection of the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum (MACAM) in Alita\, Byblos\, Lebanon.  \nMazen participated in an artist residency at the prestigious Pilotenkuche International Art Residency\, in Leipzig\, Germany\, in 2015. This would lead him to eventually relocate to Germany in 2017\, and this move would greatly impact his identity as an artist. He would also go on to enroll as a guest student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig\, further adding to his education.  \nMazen documented his struggle to ground himself in a new country through his project ‘I am a Foreigner’\, showcasing several paintings and two video installations\, which were first exhibited at GAPGAP in Leipzig in 2017 and then at WerkStadt\, Berlin in 2020. Mazen proceeded with more solo shows including ‘I End to Begin’ at 392Rmeil393 Gallery\, Beirut\, in 2019\, and ‘The Laundry Room’ at the Museum Der Bildenden Künste\, Leipzig\, also in 2019. Both shows investigated deeply the artist’s feelings towards his identity and his experiences as an immigrant. Further exploring these issues that same year\, his installation ‘Spot The Foreigner’ was part of the Re-Orient Exhibition at the Grassi Museum\, Leipzig. In January 2020\, Khaddaj showcased ‘Lützner Street 7’\, another solo show\, at Albareh Art Gallery in Bahrain. In November 2020\, Khaddaj participated in the Festival Kasseler Dokfest 37\, Kassel\, Germany\, with a project titled ‘The Artists are Not Present’ which is a video installation. Shortly after\, Khaddaj was awarded Honorable Mention for ‘The Artists are Not Present’ by the jury of the Golden Cube of the Kasseler Dokfest. Visible Thoughts was the title of his latest painting solo show that was exhibited in Kunst Kan gallery in Amsterdam. \nMazen has also participated in several collective shows\, including in Lebanon\, Bahrain\, Turkey\, and Germany. Mazen’s paintings are a play between textures and color\, transparency and flatness. His work manifests human thought and interaction through figuration\, which appears abstracted and dissipating\, intersecting yet secluded. Subsequent video performances and installations are extensions of the work on canvas; what is inherent to still surfaces translates into mutable forms.  \nMazen Khaddaj is currently living in Berlin\, Germany\, where he is practicing his art. He played many shows around the world with his recent US tour in 2016 being one of the most important commitments in his career thus far. On this said tour he played venues like the Kennedy center\, Milenium stage (Washington\, DC)\, Grammy Awards Museum (LA)\, Hintington\, Outside the box (Boston)\, Shrine (NYC)\, Reggae on the river festival (California)\, San Francisco. His lyrics reflect on Algerian reality today and give hope to the young generation. Sadek is preparing for his first Europe tour and his new solo album (GRI GRI)\, which will be released next year. IG: @sadekdemocratoz. \nMorena Leraba a shepherd musician and band hailing from the mountains of Lesotho\, southern Africa. Morena Leraba blends Famo traditional music (from Lesotho) with electro-instrumental sound creating a psychedelic feel that is yet to be coined. His formative years were at the ‘bush doofʼ - an outback rave where speakers were driven to remote lands and dance music would blast from the wee hours in the morning to the wee hours at night. \nZ*F*E*X is the synthesis of dance music in human form. A live band experience humanising the extended DJ set. Heavily influenced by club culture and transcendent psychedelic experiences - Z*F*E*X is a continuous odyssey of sound\, where synths intertwine with flutes\, jazz drums are played with the raw energy of classic broken beat records\, and natures call and response is mimicked in musical form. IG: @z_f_e_x \nÀBÁSE is an multi-instrumentalist\, producer and DJ. As a trained keyboard player\, Szabolcs Bognar has been active in the versatile music scene of Budapest for many years. He’s been a member of several successful Hungarian acts\, including Amoeba\, Soulclap Budapest and the latest project - The Mabon Dawud Republic - a fourteen piece afrobeat orchestra guest-starring the likes of Dele Sosimi and Pat Thomas. After residencies in Paris\, Lyon\, New York\, Rio De Janeiro and Salvador\, Àbáse is now based in Berlin\, where besides pursuing his solo career he’s the keyboard player for Nigerian soul singer Wayne Snow and Australian jazz drummer Ziggy Zeitgeist’s Freedom Energy Exchange. His solo project Àbáse (meaning ‘collaboration’ in West African Yoruba language) is focusing on the cross-paths of afrobeat\, hip hop\, jazz and electronica with a heavyweight international rhythm section and special guests from Brazil\, Africa and its diaspora. Àbáse released his long-awaited debut EP "Invocation" in May 2019 via HHV Records & Cosmic Compositions. IG: @abase_music \nBarabás Lőrinc is a trumpet player and producer\, Barabás Lőrinc (given name Lőrinc)\, is a pioneer of the improvisational music scene in Budapest. Over the past decade his club events and bands provided fertile ground for kindred spirits experimenting at\nthe crossroads of jazz and electronica. He gained wider international recognition at events such as the Montreaux Jazz Festival\, iTunes Festival in London and also shared stage with the Thievery Corporation\, Bonobo and Erik Truffaz. IG: @barabaslorinc \n Aduni Guedes is a young percussion researcher. Born in Recife\, a city in the northeast of Brazil\, where he was introduced to the folkloric dances and music of his state - such as Coco de Roda\, Afoxé\, Maracatu\, samba- reggae\, Frevo\, and Cavalo-marinho. The research and studies on black diaspora in his percussive spectrum intensified at the age of 17\, expanding his knowledge on afro-Cuban rhythms and traditional rhythms of West Africa\, such as Senegal and guinea Conakry. Aduni is a versatile musician capable of interacting with various universes of sound\, with a modern thought but always bringing the roots and foundations of his frequencies. IG: @aduni.g \nHal Strewe is a bass player born in Australia to New Zealand parents who raised him on surfing and soul music. Based in Berlin for the last half decade Hal has been making low frequency waves around town as a session player\, both in the studio and on stage. He currently works regularly with Sonic Interventions\, Wayne Snow\, Cassette Head Sessions\, Jesper Munk\, Z.F.E.X. and Move 78. IG: @pii_napples \nShingo Masuda is a qanun player and composer from Japan. He was born in Osaka and grew up in Nara. As a child\, he started playing the piano and studying Western classical music. In 2009\, he traveled to Egypt to start playing the qanun and learned it there. After that\, he often traveled to Turkey\, Tunisia and Greece etc. to learn various techniques and modal music. His musical activities are mainly in Japan until 2017\, and he moved to Berlin this year. Currently he is playing with many international musicians and part of the many projects. In 2019 he won a prize in one of the world music contests in Berlin “2. Creole Contest” with one of his bands “Japal”. DESCRIPTION:Drag Cinderella \nOnce upon a time\, a couple of Queens arrived in Berlin and started a House. To be specific\, in 2018\, your fav QT*BIPOC refugee collective started to gather to bring some queer magic into the Berlin club scene. For our third anniversary\, we have prepared a fairy tale show full of dance\, drag and color and we warmly invite all of you Quings and Queens to celebrate life and pride with us. Join us for the Ball on 30th October in Oyoun. \nWe love to share and tell stories and the story of choice will be Cinderella – but be assured\, we will do it our way. To celebrate our story of a community with you\, we prepared a non-classical and very special drag show you won’t forget. \nNeedless to say\, Cinderella in our case is not white as we are manipulated to think by white media and film productions. Obviously\, she will also not be cis nor straight and for this reason\, she will not lose a shoe\, but a wig on the ball which will not be thrown for boring upper-class straight princes and princesses. \nOur performers will spoil you with Oriental Dance\, Burlesque\, Bollywood performances\, Drag Shows and music: Charming Prens Emrah from Turkmenistan\, Keil Li Divõn from Libya\, Lady Zina and Dalaa al-Sham from Palestine\, Julie Dancer and Suryani Mahmood from Malaysia and Roman Queen Patricia. Seine Leidenschaft entfachte letztendlich\, der Deutschrap\, insbesondere Savas lieferte Sami\, mit seinen Gesellschaftskritischen Texten\, die nötige Inspiration. Als Künstler mit palästinensischen Wurzeln\, fasste Sami anfangs Fuß in der muslimischen Poetry Szene. Neben der Poesie und dem Job\, studiert Sami auch soziale Arbeit in Berlin. Er engagiert sich sehr für die schwächeren und verfolgt leidenschaftlich\, die Fehltritte unserer Politiker. Diese verarbeitet er in kurzen Videos und teilt diese auf Instagram (IG: sami_el_poet). \nAyatarah \n"Seit ich ein kleines Mädchen bin\, liebe ich schon die Musik. Ich hab mich sehr früh dazu berufen gefühlt in ihre Richtung zu wachsen. Früher konnte ich meine Erfahrungen in anderen Liedern wiederfinden und mich kundgeben\, indem ich diese singe. Seit einiger Zeit hab ich allerdings auch meine eigenen Worte in Lieder umgewandelt und freue mich diese auf jeder Bühne teilen zu dürfen. DESCRIPTION:Muse\, Folded is a group exhibition of a collective experimental art project shared between seven artists. The title refers to the act of folding a letter in order to put it in an envelope but also refers to the expression of a business being closed down because of difficulties\, in this case\, the crisis that artistic inspirations have been going through during the time of social distancing due to a global pandemic. \nIn the limitations that have followed the virus outbreak\, many creatives came up with digital substitutes and solutions for their works from streaming to conference-call workshops to online 3D events. \nFor many of us -creator or audience- the muse that emerges from physical contact and connectivity with reality gets lost or dims profoundly and continuously in between digital gadgets\, laptops and telephones. What is often bound to engage all five senses\, reduces to sight and hearing. Interaction with the artwork is compromised profoundly. And the bombardment of same-quality\, same-aimed information wears us out in time.\nAs an experimental solution\, ‘Muse\, Folded’ involved seven artists across Berlin working in the fields of visual arts & plastic arts to take part in a cycle of mailed artworks through an expansion of time. \nEach artist created an artwork inspired by the one they received and posted it to the next artist. All throughout this process the artworks were received and sent anonymously. DESCRIPTION:(Siehe deutsche Übersetzung unten) \nOn November 13th the Vierte Welle Film Festival will introduce a new category: #niunamenos.  \nThe "Vierte Welle Film Festival" includes in its program audiovisual productions exclusively made by women of the so-called Fourth-wave feminism. The aim of the festival is to provide visibility for female artists and help to raise awareness of gender inequality and citizen participation and therefore help to prevent prejudice and fight against discrimination. \nThe category #niunamenos presents short films made by Latin American filmmakers who identify themselves as women and who claim to be part of the #niunamenos movement. “Ni una menos” - Not one (woman) less- a feminist movement that emerged in Argentina in 2015\, which would later expand on a large scale to several countries in Latin America and other regions of the world. It is a protest group that fights against violence against women and its most serious and visible consequence\, feminicide. From an intersectional perspective\, the slogan "Ni una menos" also includes other forms of violence against women crossed by different forms of oppression whether based on gender\, ethnicity\, class\, sexual orientation\, or origin. \nThe release of #niunamenos will take place on November 13th at Oyoun's garden. Also\, a networking space for activists of different feminist collectives will be created. The screening will start at 6 pm. Ziel des Festivals ist es zum einen Künstler*innen sichtbarer zu machen und zum anderen das Bewusstsein für die Geschlechterungerechtigkeit in der Gesellschaft zu stärken\, um dazu beizutragen\, Vorurteile zu vermeiden und Diskriminierungen zu bekämpfen. \nDie Kategorie #niunamenos präsentiert Kurzfilme von lateinamerikanischen Filmemacher*innenn\, die sich als Frauen identifizieren und sich als Teil der Bewegung #niunamenos verstehen. "Ni una menos" (keine mehr) ist eine feministische Bewegung\, die im Jahr 2015 in Argentinien entstand und sich später auf mehrere Länder Lateinamerikas und andere Regionen der Welt ausweitete. Es handelt sich um eine Protestgruppe\, die sich gegen Gewalt gegen Frauen und deren schwerwiegendste und sichtbarste Folge\, den Feminizid\, wendet. Was hat diese Geschichte mit der heutigen Mikroaggression und Schwarzer Realität zu tun? \n"In Gedenken an diese Geschichte soll die heutige Lebensrealität von 512 Schwarzen Menschen in Berlin visualisieren\, wer wir sind: Ein fester Bestandteil dieser Stadt\, Menschen unterschiedlicher Professionen und Hintergründe\, verschiedener Träume\, Verkörperungen Schwarzer Identität. Es geht mir um Sichtbarmachung\, Empowerment\, Reflexion und Begegnung – mit anderen Menschen und sich selbst – darum\, gedankliche Grenzen aufzulösen und sich selbst zu hinterfragen. Als Empowerment und transformation Coach begleitet sie Menschen auf ihren eigenen  Weg der Selbsterkenntnis und Selbstliebe (IG: sboutiful\, FB: Sboutiful\, Webseite). \nYero Adugna Eticha ist ein Fotograf aus Oromia in Äthiopien\, der in Berlin lebt und sich an seiner Arbeit den Geschichten\, Perspektiven und Visionen Schwarzer und afrikanischer Menschen widmet. DESCRIPTION:Mit einer tänzerischen Installation erschließt „Break & Connection“ einen Raum des Innehaltens und der Reflexion\, der jenseits von postkolonialen\, westlichen Prägungen eine andere Verbindung des Einzelnen zu sich selbst und zueinander öffnet. \n\n„Break & Connection“ greift die Zeichen der Zeit auf und beleuchtet Bruch und Verbindung\, Pause und Neuanfang von verschiedenen Blickwinkeln aus. Der Moment des Bruchs mit alten Gewohnheiten und Sicherheiten\, der gerade ohnehin stattfindet\, dient als Anlass für eine grundlegendere Betrachtung des gesellschaftlichen Zusammenlebens. Grupo Oito untersucht mit dieser Produktion die Pause als Moment andere Realitäten zu erkunden\, neue Perspektiven einzunehmen und anders wahrzunehmen: durch die Unordnung die Ordnung verstehen\, das Unsichtbare neben dem Sichtbaren entdecken\, das Weltliche mit dem Geistlichen zusammenbringen. Dafür setzt sich die Gruppe beispielsweise mit spirituellen Praktiken und Denkweisen auseinander. Diese zeigen Wege auf\, sich auf tiefere Art und Weise mit sich selbst verbunden zu fühlen und damit auch mit anderen Menschen und der Umwelt.\nMit „Break & Connection“ setzt Grupo Oito die Arbeit an antirassistischen und dekolonialen Strukturen und Inhalten fort. Nachdem bei „Ubiquitous Assimilation“ die Infragestellung der weißen Norm im Fokus stand\, widmet sich die neue Produktion der Suche nach dem Verbindenden. Dafür wird Gewohntes aufgebrochen und in Frage gestellt – seien es bisherige Arbeitsweisen\, Tanzkonventionen oder auch gesellschaftliche Zusammenhänge und persönliche Haltungen.\nIm großzügigen Saal des Oyoun kann sich das Publikum frei bewegen und seinen eigenen Weg durch die Tanzperformance suchen. DESCRIPTION:Manuscripts of foreign body(s) visual screening panel event\, taking forms of manifestation of stories that Queer & Trans* bodies of color hold as a form of existence\, from pain to resilience as a cycle\, to the in between.  \nManuscripts of Foreign Body(s) is a critical visual collective workshop-based project by Ahmad Bَabَa (interdisciplinary artist) and Michalina Mrozek (film director) proposing the approach of TLGBQIA+ bodies of color as manuscripts of duality; being sites of oppressions as well as sites of resilience. \nThe event will present the visual manuscripts and the workshop materials\, led by the 4 artists:  Naya(lux Venera)\, Mandhla Ndubiwa\, Isu Mignon Mignonne\, and Ahmad Bَabَa; Investigating desires and sexalities as a system of oppressions\, intersectional approaches to embodiment and decolonizing mental health\, into a postcolonial lens on femininity\, and identities and representations as a form of personas.  \nIn this event the audience will be joining the artists in an open circle that will present the unique manuscripts visual work created in collaboration with the artists\, to go into a journey of discussions around the topics\, raising questions\, being critical and collectively joining voices on different topics that needs to be addressed.  \nPart of the project was also an online panel discussion Bodies and Borders: Berlin X Stettin\, hosted by Ahmad Baba\, inviting queer activist from Stettin\, Poland\, Monika Tichy and Sara with questions around\, how politics defines borders\, and how borders target minorities and inflict harm on marginalized bodies of color (QTBIPOC). \nThe event will also announce the release of MeeMعَ Podcast : a critical approach from/to Queer* Arabs* living in Berlin\, shedding light on aspects of identities\, experiences and somehow taking the form of archives of stories that need to be heard and seen from other perspectives\, deconstructing misconceptions\, stereotypes\, discriminatory lenses\, and recreating a platform to serve as a voice for so many. Er studierte bei verschiedenen Oud-Meistern\, darunter Ahmad al-Khatib\, Simon Shaheen und Samir Joubran. Zeitweise spielte er im West Eastern Divan Orchestra als Kontrabassist. Khleifi hat einen Bachelor in Weltmusik und einen Master in Kontrabass. Seine Musik spiegelt verschiedene Disziplinen\, insbesondere der orientalischen Maqam-Musik und der klassischen westlichen Musik. Dabei legt er großen Wert auf die Qualität und die verschiedenen Klangtexturen\, die die Oud erzeugen kann. Eine Hymne für alle Kinder" von Amanda Gorman\, übersetzt von Joy Denalane und Daniela Seel\, erschienen im Hoffmann und Campe Verlag vor. Wir werden dieses besondere Event mit einem kleinen Geschenkspiel für die anwesenden Kinder beenden\, bei dem wir Exemplare beider Bücher verschenken werden. We will end this Special Event with a small gift game for the children present\, giving away copies of both books. White parents of Black children are welcome to join us.
