SUMMARY:THE PATH: A Participatory Public Art Project - Exhibition + Installation + Event Series
DESCRIPTION:[deutsch unten] \nWhat do we experience in the metropoles of today's world and what do the metropoles experience? Amidst all the flux of migration\, gentrification and rapid urban change is the metropole able to contain us and vice versa? What if the paths we take every day start from nowhere and lead nowhere? Is it a togetherness that we experience or is it an 'otherness' with a potential? What are the results\, alternatives\, solutions and what can art's role be in this process? \nTHE PATH is a multidisciplinary art project that problematises the relationship between the metropole and the individual from a queer\, feminist point of view.  Inspired by the pedestrian bridges over the highways in İstanbul\, the participatory public installation at Tempelhofer Feld by Umut Azad Akkel invites the participants to an experience simulating the complex character of our co-existence with/within/despite the metropole.  \nSimilarly\, the events designed and planned around the conceptual basis of the installation\, that will take place at Tempelhofer Feld and at Oyoun will create an experiential and intellectual hub for analyzing our complex being within/with/despite the metropole. The overall perspective of the series of events will be approaching the theme from multiple views and raising critical questions about all its complexity. The focus will be Berlin and Istanbul as two interrelated metropoles and the flux of migration between the two with its implications and possible historical as well as recent meanings. \nWe invite you to join our multidisciplinary programme from September 9 to October 15. The programme includes an exhibition\, artist talks\, artist walks between Oyoun and Tempelhofer Feld\, panel discussions\, film screenings\, music performances\, and art and theatre performances - see the events listed below. We look forward to seeing you! \nPlease note: To take part in events at Oyoun or visit our exhibitions\, you need to have a negative corona test from the same day or proof of vaccination / recovery. FFP2 Masks are mandatory at Oyoun until further notice. Weitere Informationen kommen in Kürze.

SUMMARY:Film Screening and Artist Talk: 'Rantİstanbul' - 'Surplus of Istanbul' | THE PATH
DESCRIPTION:Film screening and artist talk: "Rantİstanbul" - "Surplus of Istanbul" by Ömer Şamlı\, Devrim Çetinkayalı and Alper Şen \n// Doors Open 18:30 // Event Start 19:00 \nBook your free ticket here \n\n***\nIstanbul has expanded its borders and created new living spaces and suburbs according to the rules of neoliberal capital. In the name of “urban transformation”\, the city has turned into a commercial meta that only allows citizens to live in the city if they can survive between the wheels of this commercial cycle. \nThe projects "Rantİstanbul" and "Surplus of Istanbul" recorded this transformation by overlapping and working together between 2010-15. “Rantİstanbul” has recorded the urban transformation and gentrification in Tarlabaşı audiovisually by following the results of this gentrification against the people of Tarlabaşı and the reasons for this gentrification by asking what makes the buildings more valuable than the people\, who use them as accommodation. "Surplus of Istanbul" looks at the city's litter from the center of Beyoğlu city to the outskirts of Istanbul\, Umraniye\, by creating a personal map of where the litter from the people who are the usual victims of urban transformation and gentrification\, collected and reused. \nThese two projects tell the stories and show the recordings of "transformed/renewed" Istanbul that leaves the objects and people behind\, and the utopia in Gezi Park that gave rise to the resistance to this transformation. We claim that urban transformation and gentrification are not unique concepts for Istanbul\, and that this transformation continues around different axes in Berlin. That is why we plan to record and research the traces of Berlin left by urban transformation and gentrification with workshops. \n\n*** \nAfter the film screening and an inspiring conversation with the artist\, we look forward to a DJ-Set by Mobilegirl starting at 22:00. You only need the one ticket for both events.  \n\n*** \nTHE PATH: A Participatory Public Art Project \nThe Path is an interdisciplinary project that problematizes the relationship between metropole and the individual from queer and feminist perspectives. The project consists of an art installation at Templehofer Feld\, an exhibition at Oyoun and series of events at and between both locations. The title of the project originates from Umut Azad Akkel ́s multidimensional\nartwork with the same title that will be exhibited through the project. \nCan the metropole also contain us during the whole migration wave\, gentrification and rapid urban transformation? What if the paths that we walk every day start from nowhere and lead nowhere? Is what we experience a coexistence or an ́otherness ́ with a potential? What are the results\, alternatives\, solutions and what can be the role of art in this process? \nSee the full programme of THE PATH here:  \nThe Path project was produced by Oyoun in collaboration with Umut Azad Akkel (IG: @azadonfires) as artist\, artistic director and co-curator\, Şehnaz Layıkel (IG: @sehnazlayikel) as co-curator and Pegah Keshmirshekan and Ilgaz Yalçınoğlu as event coordinator. SUMMARY:DJ Performance: Mobilegirl | THE PATH
DESCRIPTION:As a DJ\, Mobilegirl (IG: @mobilegirl) is versatile but thoughtful in her selection – her style behind the decks is focused on creating a highly energetic dance floor that allows for emotionality\, for softer moments but also attention-demanding breaks and shifts; an equally fun and challenging combination that gained her traction very early on in her career and established her as an artist to watch in experimental club music – bringing about tours across Europe\, East Asia and North America and a spot on the roster of DISCWOMAN. \nReflecting her general curiosity Mobilegirl's inspirations draw from a broad pool that intentionally make her rather difficult to categorize. However\, she has made a name for herself through club edits of R&B classics; a predilection for which draws through all of her work. Another influence\, not less apparent\, are video game scores. Her fascination with the repetitive and soothing effect of music in RPGs accordingly set the foundation for her debut EP Poise released in 2017 – a string of tracks that seemed untypically mellow but were created in an effort to decelerate and invite the listener to do the same. This project turned Mobilegirl's inspiration into praxis as it opened up the doors for her to shift her focus towards scores of films\, art installations and fashion shows the years after. \nWe are looking forward to dancing with you! \n// Doors Open 21:30 // Start 22:00 \n*** \nBefore the DJ performance starts\, there will be a film screening at Oyoun: 'Rantİstanbul' - 'Surplus of Istanbul' by Ömer Şamlı\, Devrim Çetinkayalı and Alper Şen. SUMMARY:Performance: Mapping stories by Autoplot collective | THE PATH
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to take part in an interactive audiowalk by the Autoplot collective. Their project "Mapping stories" are about a playful and accessible installation\, a kind of course that deals with questions of identity and its circumstances and tries to make them tangible for as many participants as possible. The focus of the concept is the imagery of the bridge and the map\, as well as the basic assumption that people do not appropriate their surroundings\, but are in constant exchange with it and leave traces. Traces in the form of stories. \nThe stories are based on interviews with diverse people living and working in Berlin. The focus of the audiowalk is on opportunities for the participants to meet and to not meet. Together we try to dive into different narratives like stories we tell ourselves (inner narratives)\, stories we are told (societal narratives\, stories we know (cultural narratives)\, stories we share (familial and community narratives) and hopefully stories to guide us (narratives for the Future). \nFor participating please take your phone and your earphones with you to enjoy the sound design by Autoplot. In case you forget your device\, we have some spare ones for you.' \n// Event Start 16:00 \nRegister for your free ticket to take part here \n*** \n \n*** \nAutoplot is a group with international artists. They are a collective of 5 members who come from different directions (direction\, scenography\, stage and costume design\, music\, philosophy) and work together on the concept\, the performance and the direction. You are not focused on the goal or the end product\, but on the process. The title of the project originates from Umut Azad Akkel ́s multidimensional artwork with the same title that will be exhibited through the project. \nCan the metropole also contain us during the whole migration wave\, gentrification\, and rapid urban transformation? What if the paths that we walk every day start from nowhere and lead nowhere? Is what we experience a coexistence or an ́otherness ́ with a potential? What are the results\, alternatives\, solutions\, and what can be the role of art in this process? \nSee the full programme of THE PATH here \nThe Path project was produced by Oyoun in collaboration with Umut Azad Akkel (IG: @azadonfires) as artist\, artistic director\, and co-curator\, Şehnaz Layıkel (IG: @sehnazlayikel) as co-curator and Pegah Keshmirshekan (IG: @pegah.keshmir) and Ilgaz Yalçınoğlu (IG: @ilgazyalcinoglu) as event coordinators. It was funded by the Lotto Stiftung and UdK KKWV. \n  \n*** \nPlease note: To take part in events at Oyoun or visit our exhibitions\, you need to have a negative corona test from the same day or proof of vaccination / recovery. SUMMARY:ALL EYES ON US
DESCRIPTION:For this year’s Tag der Clubkultur La By’le has curated an event called ALL EYES ON US (Discussion & Performances Centering Queer Artists in Berlin’s Hip Hop Club Scene)  to highlight the contribution of QTIBIPOC artists in Berlin’s hip hop scene and encourage the integration and maintenance of safer spaces for queer identities in hip hop club culture. \nIXA\, MC JOSH & Ventura have given us the honor of sharing their unique experiences as queer artists in the genre of hip hop as well as in-depth perspective on the current state of the inclusion and representation of queer artists in Berlin’s hip hop scene. The discussion will be moderated by singer-songwriter & queer feminist activist Malonda; and the evening will be a mix of reflection\, celebration and community empowerment which will conclude with a DJ set by Caramel Mafia! \nALL EYES ON US is an event that centers the creative and limitless resilience of T*I*BIPOC artists in Berlin’s music scene and club culture. \nWe will be accepting donations at the door for this event. The suggested donation will be between 4-8€ (or whatever is possible for your current financial situation).⁣ \n*** \n\nMC JOSH  \nMC Josh was born in Berlin in 1990. At the age of 16 the first lyrics of the young artist were already traded in the circle of friends as a secret favorite. Shortly after\, MC Josh followed suit and presented their powerful and expressive voice in concerts and jam sessions. They rap in German and their lyrics deal with topics ranging from women's rights to social injustice. Their participation in international musical exchange projects brought MC Josh to New York\, St. Petersburg\, Cairo\, Paris and Prague. \nThey are increasingly involved in the social field and currently work with young people in a youth club in Wedding where she runs the recording studio. Currently they are working on their debut album (IG: @mc_josh__). Check out "Dein Brief". \n\nVENTURA  \nVentura\, is a German speaking homosexual rapper/songwriter from Berlin with German/Mozambican roots. His rap style is very different from other rappers. With his creative witty style\, different flows and thought provoking bars\, he is developing his very own "empire" in trap and hip-hop. Ventura wants to create an acceptance in the genre of rap regarding homosexuality and is inspirate by artist like in Nicki Minaj\, Doja Cat and Lil Nas X. (IG: mynameisventura). Check the interview. \n\nAwesome Panel discussion moderator: Malonda (she/her) is a Berlin based singer\, songwriter and electric pop diva whose work spans musical theater and her own self and co-written tracks. As well as creating music\, she is a passionate anti racist and queer feminist activist. Singing and Speaking out about topics such as gender\, sexuality and diversity\, Malonda is coming into her own as a political artist. (IG: frau_malonda). \nFabulous DJ \nCaramel Mafia with a decade of radio hosting under his belt\, Caramel Mafia has also been a club DJ for 8 years. A regular resident of Berlin’s biggest HipHop and RnB clubs\, he plays across Germany and Europe. Caramel Mafia is a regular in magazines\, being DJ of the Month in "Siegessäule" and "Blu". (...) In 2017 he introduced ͞Ratchet͟ in Berlin\, his own club night\, which is proving to be a popular feature on the Berlin circuit! Since 2017 Caramel Mafia has DJ'd internationally\, often alongside rappers\, musicians and artists. His sound and vibe can often be heard at clubs\, festivals\, pride events and fashion shows. During the Corona pandemic he continued DJ'ing over live stream events (Arte\, United We Stream) and used the time to focus on his successful Berlin based dating podcast "030-Bootycall". Bootycall has been going for more than two years now and was recently awarded one of the best LGBTQ podcasts of the year by "Siegessäule"-Magazin. (IG: caramelmafia). \n-- \nCurators: La By’le \nThe collective\, La By'le\, presents a party-ready mix of different genres of the Global South and spice their sound with free-spirited vocals that transcend national borders linguistically at the same time through humor and self-awareness. \nLa By’le is a collective in Berlin centering queer urban global south culture in sound system music. We stand for centering and empowering marginalized communities by providing fun\, safer\, as well as educational spaces where our cultures can be celebrated and appreciated in an accessible way. SUMMARY:LOOK AT ME: Syrien in Fotografie und Erzählung - Vernissage und Diskussion
SUMMARY:Finissage + Sound Performance with Merey Şenocak and Steve Schofield | THE PATH
DESCRIPTION:On 8th October\, we will celebrate the Finissage of THE PATH on the Tempelhofer Feld around the installation with a joint picnic with all participants. The artists of the Open Call - the singer Mizgina Rengin and the performer Xueqing Yu\, Aina Plans\, Elisa Kostka and Johanna Schmalöer will also show their performances there.  \n// Event Start 16:30 \nAfterwards\, Merey Şenocak and Steve Schofield will present a poetic narrative with sound accompaniment. \n//  Start 18:00 \nAdditional registration required >> Link here \nIt's going to be great! We are looking forward to celebrating the closing of The Path with you! \n**** \nAbout The Open Call Performances:  \nKneading the melodies by Mizgina Rengin \nMizgina Rengin sings other women's melodies\, tones\, noises\, languages and songs that are not heard\, always searching and questioning. The kneading of diasporic melodies is a tribute to build poetic bridges between now and past and to cross the border of the emotions and stories. \nDislocated – An instant movement performance  \nMovement is the insoluble unity of body and environment. Performers do not appear as subjects. The performers only help to present the internal dynamic of the environment\, installation and the people themselves\, and the floating relationship between them. \nThe road drives the crowd forward\, but also restricts the direction and the moving space. In a mobile society where everything is moving\, alternating or changing fast\, we are locating constantly in a new environment\, all of the surroundings\, people\, sounds constantly shape the space and affect our inner space\, meanwhile our origins lurk deep within us. The Chinese idiom 身首异处 (shēn shǒu yì Chù) means one's head and one's body lie in two different places\, can be used to describe this displacement state of mutual exclusion and attraction. \nInitiator: Xueqing Yu // Performers: Aina Plans\, Elisa Kostka\, Johanna Schmalöer\, Xueqing Yu \nFrom the study program Music and Movement / Eurhythmic in University of Art Berlin. \n**** \nMerey Şenocak (1993\, Turkey) studied Visual Arts\, Time-based Media at the University of Arts London. Has contributed to art events and exhibitions in public spaces with performances and workshops in London and Istanbul. Recently she has performed live with musicians and visual artists in various cities. Next year she will be studying in the Master of Arts programme at the Berlin University of the Arts\, focusing on Sonic Arts and Sound Studies. \nSteve Schofield is a musician from UK/Australia. He mostly plays wind instruments and keyboards. Living in Berlin\, he is involved with freely improvised music performance and inter-disciplinary art projects. He sees improvised music as a fantastic language for expressing what there is to be felt in the moment of now\, a way of bringing audiences to shared places of being. Steve Schofield has performed at festivals in Australia\, Germany\, Spain\, India and Thailand. With GENES - a musical trio from Berlin - he released his debut album "Presents of Presence" in 2020\, which is available online. \n**** \nTHE PATH: A Participatory Public Art Project \nThe Path is an interdisciplinary project that problematizes the relationship between metropole and the individual from queer and feminist perspectives. The project consists of an art installation at Tempelhofer Feld\, an exhibition at Oyoun\, and a series of events at and between both locations. \n*** \nPlease note: To take part in events at Oyoun or visit our exhibitions\, you need to have a negative corona test from the same day or proof of vaccination / recovery. The government-backed militiamen gained notoriety through the brutal killing of civilians and protestors during the peaceful revolution in 2019. The album is accompanied by a large variety of musicians\, together  Zeyo is making an offering to the world and social change. For the occasion of the album release\, the renowned Sudan-based rapper Wad Almzad will be invited to host and support this premier. Both Zeyo and Wad Almzad represent voices of a Sudanese generation\, who are deconstructing and reconstructing the genre of Rap and redefining the Sudanese Rap game. The concert will be moderated by the visual artist and activist Eythar Gubara and accompanied by the Sudanese legend\, Elwalid Yousf\, and the one and only Sonic In(ter)vention\, Berlin-based global trance music formation. Ibrahim Aljrefawi will assist in the technical implementation. \nThe project has been realized by the support of Civic Lab Sudan and funded by MRI (Martin Roth Initiative)\, Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung\, Bosch Stiftung and Goethe Institute.\nThe concert will be followed by a panel discussion on Oct 10 and another concert in Pavillon Hannover on Oct 15. \nZeyo\nMustafa Elsiddig\, known as Zeyo is a Sudanese national\, born in Wad Madani. Zeyo grew up in United Arab Emirates\, in the Al-ain. He fell in love with Rap music and started pursuing it when he was 16 years old. At first\, he used to write poetry but couldn’t quite grasp the flow. Although he was in love with this art\, it was challenging\, as he is a stutterer. Until one day he played a beat he found on YouTube\, and attempted to rap on it. That’s when he discovered that he can perform\, since then he hasn’t stopped. To Zeyo music is a comfort zone. As he had had a tough childhood because of his stuttering condition\, he grew to get over it\, through making this art. By which he learned some extra skills such as\, making beats\, video editing and photography. He strives towards transforming any negativity he is subjected to into a solitude that benefits his growth. His goal is to express what he\, and others\, go through due to freedom suppression practiced by the extremist right wing government in Sudan. He also strives towards establishing a platform in his country\, to help revolutionary artists\, who are not fortunate enough to practice their artistry\, due to the hard living conditions that they go through because of the government.\n>IG: @Zeyo.Mann \nWad Almzad\nKhaled Ezzeldeen Osman Farhat\, also known as Zangola\, or Wad Almzad is born in the United Arab Emirates\, has spent most of his life and creative output in Sudan. Having worked as a DJ he received plenty of inspiration from Zeyo and by the development of the Rap scene in Sudan in the years leading up to the peaceful revolution in 2018. That encouraged him to pursue a career as a Rapper and musician. In 2019 he started with simple freestyles\, as this was the easiest way for him to spread his message of empowerment\, hope\, self-worth and community to all the Sudanese people. The concert Zangola held in December 2020 attracted an audience of three thousand fans. The following concerts had to be cancelled due to pandemic reasons and in April 2021 he held his second concert\, which was attended by another four thousand fans\, gradually growing a considerable following amongst the young Sudanese population. He is currently 28 years old and has his main base in Khartoum\, Sudan\, but regularly travels to different parts of the world for musical collaborations. \n>IG: @wad_almzad \nElwalid Yousf\nSudaneseische Musiker\, Geboren in Khartoum Sudan 1966\nStudium Hochschule für Musik und Theater Khartoum/Sudan\n* Gründungsmitglieder Sawra Musik Band (1991-1994)\n* Mitglieder Igd Elglalad Musikgruppe (1996-1997)\n* 1997 Ausreise nach Deutschland \n* Konzerten: In Sudanesische Städte und Arabische Länder\, Paris ("Institut der Arabischen Welt") Holland (Music Meeting Festival)\,Amsterdam\, Den Haag\,Leiden...Deutschland (Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin) Frankfurt am Main\, Köln\,Hanover...London\,Dublin\,Salzburg...\n> Facebook \nSonic In(ter)vention\nSonic In(ter)ventions is a weekly jam session of global trance musics. SUMMARY:LOOK AT ME: Syrien zwischen Krieg und Frieden - Podiumsdiskussion
DESCRIPTION:Podiumsdiskussion mit Dr. Dörthe Engelcke (Moderatorin)\, Dr. André Bank (Panelist)\, Dr. Andreas Reinicke Botschafter a.D. \nDr. Andreas Reinicke Botschafter a.D.

SUMMARY:'Love Songs For Revolution' - Performance by Cammack Lindsey | THE PATH
DESCRIPTION:For their performance\, Cammack Lindsey will sing a collection of love songs for resistance and revolution\, that embody our shared experiences of oppression under exploitative capitalism. The selection will feature songs written by themselves\, along with songs that have inspired them\, hoping in turn to inspire you! \n// Event Start 18:00 \nRegister for your free ticket to take part here \n**** \nCammack Lindsey's work stems from the transition period of opera into musical theatre\, composing holobiotical musicals that emerge from symbiotic interactions between the (non-human) subvisible world and the human. Investigating scientific and historical relics of failures from extractive capitalism\, they piece together complex networks of oppression to embody forms of collective resistance. Expanding this space to redistribute stolen futures through performances and installations\, they collaborate often with (sometimes toxic) cyanobacteria and microalgae\, code\, the voice\, sound\, & the materialization of colours\, magic\, ghosts and clouds. \nBased in Berlin\, they produced their first 8-hour musical with M.I/mi1glissé at Acker Stadt Palast in May 2017 and in 2019\, premiered their most recent musical composition ' ∫ ( { } )_ 𝑣𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑜𝑤'\, releasing the recording online with the label Quantum Natives. As of July 2020\, they have completed their masters in 'Art and Media' at UdK Berlin and are currently working on ‘Cyanotoxic Romance’\, an upcoming musical and tape release with the label Baba Vanga. \nIG: @la.kitty.mia \nWebsite: http://iruuu.tk/ \nSoundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/cammack_lindsey \n\nPhoto by Alice Dalgalarrondo \n**** \nThis performance takes place as part of THE PATH:  \nTHE PATH: A Participatory Public Art Project \n\nTHE PATH is a multidisciplinary art project that problematises the relationship between the metropole and the individual from a queer\, feminist point of view. \nThe Path project was produced by Oyoun in collaboration with Umut Azad Akkel (IG: @azadonfires) as artist\, artistic director\, and co-curator\, Şehnaz Layıkel (IG: @sehnazlayikel) as co-curator and Pegah Keshmirshekan (IG: @pegah.keshmir) and Ilgaz Yalçınoğlu (IG: @ilgazyalcinoglu) as event coordinators. It was funded by the Lotto Stiftung and UdK KKWV. \n**** \nPlease note: To take part in events at Oyoun or visit our exhibitions\, you need to have a negative corona test from the same day or proof of vaccination / recovery. SUMMARY:BACKBONE - سند الظهر - Vernissage
DESCRIPTION:With this vernissage Lebanese artist Mazen Khaddaj opens his multidisciplinary exhibition “Backbone”. The show is a collection of video performances\, multichannel installations\, and documentation by the artist that signify his relationship with his father\, and his death in December 2020. After a long and heavy battle with COVID19\, his dad surrendered and passed away at the age of sixty-three. \n“Backbone” is an explosion of grief and other unprocessed emotions stemming from Mazen’s childhood into his adult years. With this show\, he depicts the story of a gay Arab boy and his relationship with his conservative father. \nThe ceremonial vernissage of  "Backbone" will take place in Oyoun.  \n→ Start of the event: October 21th // 4:00 p.m. \n→ The event is free of charge. However\, registration is required - link here \n→ More information about the exhibition - here \n  \nAbout the artist \nMazen Khaddaj (b. 1985) is a multidisciplinary Lebanese artist working in painting\, performance\, video art\, and installation. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from the American University of Science and Technology in Beirut in 2008. His background includes working as an Art Director in multinational advertising companies for several years before eventually dedicating himself fully to the arts.  \nMazen started his artistic journey in the medium of painting. He exhibited his first solo show ‘Bonds’ at Art Circle (Beirut) in 2013. Eventually\, he would move into a more multidisciplinary approach\, showcasing video performances in addition to paintings\, such as his second solo show ‘The Middle State’ which was exhibited both at 392Rmeil393 Gallery (Gemmayze\, Beirut) and at the University of Balamand Gallery (Lebanon) in 2015. These were followed by the exhibition ‘Emotion in Motion’ at Artspace Hamra (Beirut) in 2016 that featured ‘The Eye’\, an installation project featuring five videos depicting the relationship between individuality and society. ‘The Eye’ is now part of the permanent collection of the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum (MACAM) in Alita\, Byblos\, Lebanon.  \nMazen participated in an artist residency at the prestigious Pilotenkuche International Art Residency\, in Leipzig\, Germany\, in 2015. This would lead him to eventually relocate to Germany in 2017\, and this move would greatly impact his identity as an artist. He would also go on to enroll as a guest student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig\, further adding to his education.  \nMazen documented his struggle to ground himself in a new country through his project ‘I am a Foreigner’\, showcasing several paintings and two video installations\, which were first exhibited at GAPGAP in Leipzig in 2017 and then at WerkStadt\, Berlin in 2020. Mazen proceeded with more solo shows including ‘I End to Begin’ at 392Rmeil393 Gallery\, Beirut\, in 2019\, and ‘The Laundry Room’ at the Museum Der Bildenden Künste\, Leipzig\, also in 2019. Both shows investigated deeply the artist’s feelings towards his identity and his experiences as an immigrant. Further exploring these issues that same year\, his installation ‘Spot The Foreigner’ was part of the Re-Orient Exhibition at the Grassi Museum\, Leipzig. In January 2020\, Khaddaj showcased ‘Lützner Street 7’\, another solo show\, at Albareh Art Gallery in Bahrain. In November 2020\, Khaddaj participated in the Festival Kasseler Dokfest 37\, Kassel\, Germany\, with a project titled ‘The Artists are Not Present’ which is a video installation. Shortly after\, Khaddaj was awarded Honorable Mention for ‘The Artists are Not Present’ by the jury of the Golden Cube of the Kasseler Dokfest. Visible Thoughts was the title of his latest painting solo show that was exhibited in Kunst Kan gallery in Amsterdam. \nMazen has also participated in several collective shows\, including in Lebanon\, Bahrain\, Turkey\, and Germany. Mazen’s paintings are a play between textures and color\, transparency and flatness. His work manifests human thought and interaction through figuration\, which appears abstracted and dissipating\, intersecting yet secluded. Subsequent video performances and installations are extensions of the work on canvas; what is inherent to still surfaces translates into mutable forms.  \nMazen Khaddaj is currently living in Berlin\, Germany\, where he is practicing his art. He still has strong ties to the Middle East and continues to engage in artistic activities there. \nwww.mazenkhaddaj.com // IG: @mazenkhaddajart \n*** \nPlease note: To take part in events at Oyoun or visit our exhibitions\, you need to have a negative corona test from the same day or proof of vaccination / recovery. SUMMARY:Soura Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The third edition of Soura Film Festival\, hosted at Oyoun\, will take place from October 21st - 24th 2021 in Berlin. \nThe festival will present a programme curated with the idea to address queer culture\, filmmakers\, and characters relevant to South West Asia and North Africa; a region commonly known as S.W.A.N.A. \nIn the majority of these territories\, homosexuality remains illegal with the consequence of severe punishment. Degrees of tolerance vary from one state to the other\, but LGBTQI+ communities often face regular harassment and crackdowns from state authorities\, with religion and morality often evoked to arouse public sentiment. Therefore\, the festival’s mission is to create a safe and welcoming space for queer filmmakers who are often shunned or persecuted in their home countries\, their stories too often suppressed or censored. \n  \nThursday\, October 21  \nVernissage of the exhibition BACKBONE - more info here \n// Event start: 16:00  \nOpening Film [Feature 1] – THE MANY LIVES OF KOJIN (88 min) + Q&A \n// Doors open: 18:30 // Event start: 19:00 \nFilm Program 1 - Far From Home (70 min) \n// Doors open: 21:45 // Event start: 22:00 \n  \nFriday\, October 22  \nShort Film Program 2 - A Bittersweet Escape (83 min) \n// Doors open: 16:45 // Event start: 17:00 \nFeature 2 - NICO (75 min) + Q&A   \n// Doors open: 18:45 // Event start: 19:00 \nFeature 3 – Sex\, Revolution and Islam (81 min) + Q&A \n// Doors open: 21:15 // Event start: 21:30 \n  \nSaturday\, October 23 \nPanel discussion: Reclaiming Narration: On Queering Middle Eastern Cinema \n// Doors open: 14:45 // Event start: 15:00 \nRetrospective - Anyab (100 min) \n// Doors open: 16:45 // Event start: 17:00 \nShort Film Program 3 - Hearts In Purgatory (70 min) \n// Doors open: 19:15 // Event start: 19:30 \nFeature 4 - Death of a Virgin and the Sin of Not Living  (90 min) + Q&A \n// Doors open: 21:15 // Event start: 21:30 \n  \nSunday\, October 24 \nPanel discussion: How Queer is ‘Queer Cinema’ from the Middle East? \n// Doors open: 12:45 // Event start: 13:00 \nBeyond Border - Focus on Pakistan (90 min) \n// Doors open: 14:45 // Event start: 15:00 \nXPOSED: Cruising Courageously (90 min) + Q&A \n// Doors open: 16:45 // Event start: 17:00 \nFeature 5 – Love\, Spells and all That (96 min) \n// Doors open: 18:45 // Event start: 19:00 \nClosing Film [Feature 6] MIGUEL’S WAR (128  min) + Q&A \n// Doors open: 21:00 // Event start: 21:30 \n  \n→ see the full programme here \n→ Get your Ticket here  \n  \n*** \nABOUT THE PROGRAMME: \nThe programme of our third edition will include 7 feature films\, 30 short films (compiled into 5 different programs)\, 2 panel discussions\, and an exhibition by 'Mazen Khaddaj'. \nThe festival opens with Diako Yazdani's The Many Lives of Kojin\, a very touching film about a 23 year-old young man who seeks to exist in a society where he seems unable to find his place. The film is having its German premiere at Soura and the event will feature the presence of the filmmaker and protagonist. \nSome of the other highlights include Seyran Ateş: Sex\, Revolution and Islam by Nefise Özkal Lorentzen\, which aims to provoke the debate suggesting the necessity of a sexual revolution in the Islamic world; the Lebanese film Death of a Virgin\, and the Sin of Not Living by George Peter Barbari\, one of the highlights of this year's Berlinale Panorama; Eline Gehring's Nico about a woman dealing with a terrible xenophobic incident and taking her destiny into her own hands; among many others. \nWith our Retrospective section\, the festival endeavours to rediscover film history and provide a contextualized experience with the ongoing transformation of cinematic storytelling and its aesthetics. For this edition we are screening Anyab by Mohammed Shebl\, an Egyptian take on the classic 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show'. \nOur 2021 edition will close with the astonishing Teddy Winner Miguel’s War by Eliane Raheban\, about a man confronting the ghosts of the past and exploring unrequited love and tormenting feelings of guilt. The filmmaker took 9 years to make the film and will be present at our closing ceremony. \nThis edition also marks the launching of a new section\, called Beyond Borders\, set to highlight filmmakers from territories outside of the SWANA region. To kick off this inaugural segment\, we invited the filmmaker Hamza Bangash to curate the program for us with the focus on Pakistani filmmakers. The program will be composed of 7 beautiful short films. \n*** \nThis project was organised in cooperation with Heinrich Böll Stiftung and The Power of the Arts and has been realized by the support of The Student Hotel\, Siegessäule\, Clam Order\, Indiekino Berlin\, PinguinDruck\, Habibi Collective\, iHeartBerlin\, XPOSED Queer Film Festival\, International Queer & Migrant Film Festival Amsterdam\, Supernova Cinema and Lab111. \n  \nIG: @sourafilmfest  \nFacebook: @SouraFilmFest \nTwitter: @SouraFilmFest \nWebsite: https://sourafilmfest.com/ \n  \nArtwork: Dariush Alexander \nDesign: Clam Order  (to the Website > here)

SUMMARY:Backbone - سند الظهر - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:"Backbone" is a multidisciplinary exhibition by Lebanese artist Mazen Khaddaj. The show is a collection of video performances\, multichannel installations\, and documentation that signifies the relationship with his father\, and his death in December 2020.⁣ After a long and heavy battle with COVID19\, his dad surrendered and left him at the age of sixty-three. His passing was like an earthquake that shook Mazen's reality and left him broken. \nBook yourself a time slot to visit the exhibition here \nMazen's dad\, Melhem\, was a traditional Arab father that worked tirelessly to provide for his family. For many years\, until his death\, he worked every day in his shop in Aley\, Mount Lebanon. Melhem was a man of faith and very respected in his town\, he was also strict with his children and required a lot of attention. He was kind towards his family and friends and loved them fiercely\, but hid his feelings way beneath his tough exterior. He was noticeably very proud of Mazen's only and eldest brother\, Hassan. Hassan got married\, had a child\, and took over the family business. \n"How could I have told my dad who I was? I already looked different\, I wore tight clothes and had non-traditional artistic hobbies. I was soft and sensitive and kept my sexuality hidden in a tightly sealed closet. Melhem always associated my lifestyle and looks with an artist's way of life.  He was not interested in my art\, but he cared about me and supported me financially in my endeavors"\n- Mazen about his father. \n"Backbone" is an explosion of grief and other unprocessed emotions stemming from Mazen´s childhood into his adult years. With this show\, he opens his world and depicts the story of a gay Arab boy and his conservative father. SUMMARY:"Hoffnung" - Lesung und Gespräch mit Nermin Ismail
DESCRIPTION:Hoffnung ist universell. SUMMARY:Bizarre Music Festival
DESCRIPTION:"In light of the heavy restrictions the cultural sector has experienced due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the political response to it\, playing in front of people again feels many kinds of strange by now.\nAs artists we get a lot of from these exchanges\, at the same time we also give much of ourselves – this is the symbiosis and synthesis of energy that makes the space vibrate higher.\nNot having this exchange for so long left many of us drained and weakened\, wondering about our role in a society without public gatherings. We want to dedicate this festival to ourselves\, the artist who give so much of themselves. We also want to use this opportunity to turn the camera back on the audience to capture their joy and energetic participation and we’d like the documentation to reflect this very important synergy between artist and audience." \nBizarre Music Fest will bring on stage international musicians of all origins who have chosen Berlin as their city of heart. Get ready for an evening full of music you never heard before\, music that is the fruit of diversity\, travel\, sometimes even uprooting. Prepare yourself for real musical hugs! \n→ When: 29.10.2021 // 17:00 PM \n→ Ticket price: 7\,00 // 15\,00 // 20\,00  >>> Buy your Ticket via Eventbrite >> Link here. \nIf you have little or no income and cannot buy the ticket but would still like to participate\, please contact hallo@oyoun.de.
