“May Ayim: Poet. 1996.” by Akinbode Akinbiyi

Exhibition opening with artist talk 

In June, the Berlin-based Nigerian-British photographer showed Akinbode Akinbiyi extremely intimate black and white photographs dealing with the farewell of the Afro-German poet, activist and editor May Ayim in 1996. At the vernissage of “May Ayim: Poet. 1996.” has the internationally renowned artist and and documenta alumnus spoke with Muhammad Salah Abdulaziz in the crowded Oyoun Garden about the exhibition, his work and the decolonization of photography.

The previously unpublished work is part of Oyoun's long-term project “rongin shagor”. Further events in this series will be published in our program on our website and on our social media channels.
