In 1962 Algeria gained its independence from French colonialism. In memory of this, Oyoun organizes the exhibition “Moudjahidate* – women*, resistance, queer alliance”, which is part of “Mightier than a Trampled Flower” is curated by Dami Choi and Louna Sbou, with assistance from Rebecca Odewole.
Our exhibition takes place from 01. to 30.11. held in Oyoun.
The exhibition designates a space that pays tribute to the Algerian fighters who fought with their minds and their bodies against French colonization.
On November 1st, the day the Algerian War of Independence began 68 years ago, our exhibition features works by three Algerian artists Nadia Makhlouf, Sarah El Hamed and Maya Ines Touam. Her works illuminate the different lived experiences of women during the Algerian war. These experiences reflect her struggle for freedom and autonomy for her people and herself.
