Salima Hamrini

Salima Hamrini (she/her) was born in Casablanca, Morocco. In 2015, she discovered photography and began using it as a medium to express herself.

As a self-taught photographer, Salima has created a visual language that bridges the world of documentary photography and artistic expression in cinema.

She works primarily with digital photography and integrates images as well as text to tell stories.

Her artistic focus is on capturing the intimate experiences in communities that are characterized by great challenges and form the core theme of her practice.

Salima's photography revolves around the intimate human experiences in societies facing great challenges and is therefore the central theme of her work.

She is currently in Berlin for a one-year scholarship at Oyoun Berlin (2023/2024) and is working on the development of her project: 

“Children of the Sun” is a documentary photography project that explores the stories of BIPOC immigrant artists from the SWANA region who left their homeland in search of not only creative freedom, but more importantly, a safe haven. The project focuses on the challenges, motivations and emotional experiences of these artists as they navigate new cultural landscapes while coping with the homesickness that remains in their work.

This project is a testament to the resilience of artists and also symbolizes a broader community that faces numerous challenges and suffers from exclusion.
