Nicole Wolf

Nicole Wolf (she/her) is a researcher, writer and Senior Lecturer in Visual Cultures (Goldsmiths, University of London), based in Berlin and London, white and queer. Her background is researching political cinema in terms of its ability to defy what is seen as real and imagine something else. Much of her research and thinking is inspired and informed by artistic and activist practices in South Asia, including militarily occupied Kashmir. Nicole began training in permaculture in 2014 followed by two PC teacher training courses including Rosemary Morrow's course in Srinagar, Kashmir. Since then, she has passionately combined her interests in critical ecologies, anti-colonial conservation, and creative practice to explore agrocultural practices as resistance and what soil kinematics might be. 

Collective and collaborative learning and making processes which draw on diverse knowledges are crucial for all of these questions. Nicole’s participation in ‘Living Archive – Archive Work as a Contemporary Artistic Practice’ and ‘Archive ausser sich’ (both projects by Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art, Berlin) included research and writing for the restoration of film works by Yugantar, the first feminist film collective in India (see yugantar.film, produced in collaboration with Deepa Dhanraj) as well as the development of “Soil – City- Solidarity”, an interdisciplinary urban permaculture design certificate course, and the symposium “’Tell me what matter was the ground’ – Repair beyond redemption”. Together with Mojisola Adebayo Nicole has developed 'Agri-cultural practices' as an experimental workshop methodology focusing on anti-racism, arts and the environment (since 2019).
