Press release on the decision of the Berlin Administrative Court

(Berlin, December 21, 2023)

With regret, Oyoun (Kultur NeuDenken gUG) notes the decision of the Berlin Administrative Court to reject our application for interim legal protection regarding the approval of funding for 2024. Although this decision is disappointing, we remain determined and will move forward. We have already filed a complaint with the Higher Administrative Court today.

On a positive note, there are no longer any substantive concerns expressed about our work and events. This strengthens us in our role as a platform for queer feminist and diasporic perspectives and confirms the relevance of our work in the cohesion of Berlin's cultural diversity.

We particularly welcome the intention of the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion to find solutions for our employees. We are looking forward to the concrete measures, because so far all inquiries from the affected employees have remained unanswered, even though unemployment could occur in just 10 days.

The decision to maintain the Lucy-Lameck-Straße 32 location as a migrant cultural center is an encouraging sign. We are convinced that Oyoun is ideally suited for this profile due to his many years of expertise. A sensible and sustainable perspective should make it possible to continue our work, and we continue to fight for this.

We thank all of our supporters and reaffirm our commitment to continue to be a space that makes marginalized voices heard. Oyoun will continue his mission to provide a platform for queer feminist and diasporic perspectives and thus contribute to an open, inclusive and diverse society.

We are happy to answer any questions or provide further information.
