Open Call

Rituals of Real (ease) Ancestral Body Noise Group Residency

with Gugulethu Duma

[German below]

This call is aimed at artists working on their own processing of ancestral technology, of embodied memory in performance practice, activism and cultural work. Of particular interest are reflections that engage in and reflect on social and ancestral conversations in novel ways, as well as other approaches to futurism, modernity, preservation and invocation. We have titled the theme of the residency “Rituals of Real(ease)”.

In the spirit of the program's emphasis on biomythography and ancestral reconnection, the main focus will be on honoring the remnants of ritual through kinaesthetic and vocal intimacy, engaging the power of a collective creativity developed amidst political and social resistance in a time of social distancing. We are looking for innovative ways of presenting the processes of ritual preservation, production and performance, while creating a safe space for the collective that emerges from the process.

who can apply
The residency is aimed at BIPoC individuals and collectives, for healing and engaging the poetic and political imagination. The previous edition of Ancestral Body Noise centered narratives from Africa and the African Diaspora. Both individual practitioners and groups of two people are welcome to apply. The group in residence will be 5 practitioners in total.
