OPEN CALL · ALTERNATIVES DENKMAL FÜR NEUKÖLLN

*Attention: The open call has expired.*

Citizens' meeting and workshop May 21 2023, 10:30am-15:30pm at Oyoun Kulturzentrum

Inauguration June 23, 19pm, on Hermannplatz Neukölln / Art Festival 48 Stunden Neukölln

What could a memorial that celebrates migratory experiences look like? We are tracing both through migratory memories and towards a new form of urban monument, that fuses digital and urban spaces.

We wish to set a positive frame for the migration discourse, and counteract current xenophobic tendencies in politics and urban space.

Alternatives Denkmal für Neukölln (alternative monument for Neukölln) aims to connect the migratory (his)stories, testimonies and visual memories of Berlin-based migrants and refugees in a series of audio-visual artistic representations. The memorial weaves together memories, poetic, subjective, subversive, connecting spaces from around the world into the fabric of our shared urban space. We suggest an alternative to right-wing populisms like “Alternative für Deutschland”. Instead, migration is approached in its potential of intertwining spaces and memories into a future shared space, a safe space, brought forth by engaged, developing communities.

We look forward to the participation of interested citizens of all ages and backgrounds. Compensation is offered to participants. Please get in touch to participate until May 18th to: ideas(at)oyoun.de.

The project takes place at part of 48 Stunden Neukölln, is based at Oyoun Kulturzentrum and guided by media artist Mikala Hyldig Dal.
