Presented on November 1st, the day the Algerian War of Independence began 60 years ago “Moudjahidate* – women*, resistance, queer alliance” Works by three artists of Algerian origin, whose works focus on the experiences of women* in (post-)war Algeria: Nadja Makhlouf, Sarah El Hamed and Maya Inès Touam.

With the photos of the vernissage we look back on an evening with many impressions and interesting conversations.

MOUDJAHIDATE*

In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Algeria's independence from France, “Moudjahidate* - women*, resistance, queer alliance” honours the commitment of women* fighters in the struggle for freedom and autonomy for their people and themselves. The exhibition creates a space for all women* who contributed to liberating land with their bodies, minds and power.

Maya Inès Touam conducts anthropological and dreamlike research using different media such as photographs, drawings, sculptures and personal or symbolic objects.

Sarah El Hamed is a Franco-Algerian performance artist, director and mixed media storyteller.

AS* PAPANGUS in Berlin

After the Afro-Brazilian artist Bruna Amaro had already organized a carnival in its most queer*feminist and decolonial form with more than 50 women* in São Paulo, she and seven Berliners marched through the streets of Neukölln almost a month later to protest against the to fight against the objectification of marginalized bodies.

#AS* PAPANGUS: Open Call for women* in Berlin

We are looking for 10 women* in Berlin who would like to take part in the AS* PAPANGUS street performance on May 7th. AS* PAPANGUS by Bruna Amaro is a celebration by and for women* - it's about our lives, our struggles to survive, our fight against the many facets of structural oppression in our society.
