BIPoC Ballroom Session - Embracing the Rich Heritage of Ballroom Culture

In the workshop you will experience the vibrant world of ballroom, an art form that has its origins in the black and Latino drag and trans community in Harlem, New York. The aim of this event is to create a space for the local Berlin community to exchange, train and heal. A donation of 3 euros is desired.

Biography

Kris Eshu 007

Christopher aka Kris Eshu 007 (pronouns: They/Them), is an Afropean movement artist, dancer, voguer and yoga teacher. They started learning Vogue in 2015 and specialise in Vogue (New Way) performance. Judging and performing across Europe, organising balls, giving workshops, promoting Ballroom and creating more spaces for queer BIPOC community Kris Eshu 007 studied psychology at the University of Birmingham (Msc) and conducted a thesis on the efficacy of a support group in people with psychosis. While working in London in palliative care in a hospice they discovered personally the healing and therapeutic effects of dance, especially in the form of voguing.

They joined the collective House of Saint Laurent (ex-House of Melody the first German ballroom house) and helped to establish Ballroom in Germany and Europe. Performing in theatres, stages, organising balls and teaching works. They have worked with artists including Peggy Gou, Cakes da Killa, Peaches, Joanna Lumley (Secret Berlin) and Keanu Reeves for John Wick 007 to name a few. In 007 Eshu left the collective Saint Laurent to endeavour on more solo projects and to develop their artistic practice. Their work explores the relationship and spaces between movement, queerness and spirituality.
