Waacking Dance Workshop with Habibitch | Maghreb* alike
November 2, 2022 19:00 AM - 21:00

*** Update 2.11.: Registration only possible until 18:30 p.m. After that box office! ***
By focusing on the specific training techniques for this dance, we can discover the cultural and political history of Waacking. In doing so, Habibitch directs our attention to the communities, affects, and beliefs that make up this practice.
The Waacking Dance Workshops stem from the desire to collectively discover, embody and question training techniques in performance. These sessions aim to situate the warm up as a vital step in the creation of performance pieces. Thus, training is understood as a starting point for choreographic, dramaturgical or performative productions, both a process of sharing and reflecting. Based upon inclusive invitations, the Sessions seek to deconstruct silos between movement and thought. This session offers a space to practice and discuss, open to all, and conceived in close partnership with artists. In this experimental terrain, audience members become active participants, giving birth to an ephemeral event.

BIOGRAPHIES
Habibitch is an Algerian-born Paris-based, non-binary, queer, femme, boss, dancer, choreographer and activist. They invest spaces from the Ballroom Scene to feminist and institutional stages to express themselves creatively and politically. They frequently comment on social and political debates related to race, gender, immigration, and marginalized groups in France and beyond. Their performances and analyses are always intersectional as they decolonize the dance-floor everywhere they go.
This workshop takes place as part of the project "Moudjahidate* – women*, resistance, queer alliance"In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Algeria's independence from France, “Moudjahidate* - women*, resistance, queer alliance” honours the commitment of women* fighters in the struggle for freedom and autonomy for their people and themselves. The exhibitionand the associated series of events create a space for all women* who have contributed to the liberation of the country with their body, their mind and their strength.
Moudjahidate* – women*, resistance, queer alliance” is part of Oyoun's curatorial focus MIGHTIER THAN A TRAMPLED FLOWER.
