Podium | State of emergency – the new “normal”? State repression and police violence
November 1, 2023 18:00 AM - 20:30

Podium organized by Revolutionary Left with speakers from KOP Berlin, Revolutionary Left and Palestine Campaign
The state's reaction to solidarity with the Palestinians has shown it: the mask of the parliamentary republic fell and the ugly face of the repressive police state was revealed. Freedom of expression and assembly disappeared overnight. Anyone who wore the keffiyeh – the “Palestinian scarf” – or did not look “German” enough could be mistreated or arrested by the police. Hundreds of people roamed the neighborhoods and intimidated people.
Despite bans, thousands took to the streets to show their solidarity with the oppressed people in Gaza and the West Bank and to defy state repression. But what should happen next?
Will this state of emergency become normal? Is freedom no longer also the freedom of those who think differently? The panel will discuss how opposition and resistance can be lived even under these extreme conditions.
