rongin shagor/রঙিন সাগর | concert reading | “The Whisper of Others”

November 12, 2022 19:00 AM

"The Whisper of Others" is a lyrical examination of hegemonic historiography and the injustices deeply rooted in it. The poems combine world events with individual stories of flight and exploitation and invite the reader to take on new perspectives. Her poems are longing, sad and uplifting at the same time.

_Djelifly Sako

comes from Mali, from a family of musicians and griots, in which the tradition of playing the kora (the 21-string bridge harp) is usually passed on from father to son. However, his father died very early, so Djelifly Sako became a student of the famous Sidiki Diabate (father of the internationally known kora player Toumani Diabate). He lived with his master until his death and then went to Bamako for further studies on Toumani Diabate. During the five years there, Djelifly Sako made numerous concert and television appearances.

Djelifiy Sako has been living in Berlin for almost 20 years and there is hardly a place in the capital where he has not performed. He delighted his audience with numerous performances in Germany and many European countries.

Djelifly Sako explores new styles on the Kora by creating a connection between traditional African repertoire and Western jazz elements and African rhythms. This creates sounds that tell, among other things, about the heart and memory of Africa. He gives kora lessons and presents his kora and kora music in schools, kindergartens and workshops.

_Hakan Tugrul

is an Istanbul-born composer and santoor musician. He started his music career in 2009 and since then has been involved in Santur Solo and various transcultural music projects. In 2018 he moved to Berlin and continues his music career here.
