FRATZ Festival: TAH DAM! (2+)
May 16st 11pm - 11:30
One event at 10:00 p.m. on May 17, 2022
Music and dance performance by MusicDance Cape Town (South Africa)
TAH DAM! is a music and dance performance for families and children. The partly traditional African, partly traditional European music is played on many interesting instruments: Mbira (from Zimbabwe), Djembe (from West Africa), Umtshingo (from South Africa), Adungu (from Uganda) and also a piano, rain sticks and singing are used .
TAH DAM! consists of five parts: »The Water Song« deals with water, how it flows and moves and what lives in it. The Wind Song (“The Wind Song”) is about flying, blowing, floating and blowing and spinning. The Erdlied (»The Earth Song«) is inspired by the rhythm of the traditional Mapiko dance from Mozambique. The Body Song listens to the tactile sounds we make ourselves. At the very end comes the song song (»The Song Song«), which invites us to dance together and imitate the movements of the others.
TAH DAM! was created in June 2020 in Cape Town as a research laboratory of FRATZ International. A dedicated website features activity videos to enhance the theatrical experience. TAH DAM! would like to inspire children and parents to continue making music and dancing at home - this also means the English expression »Together at Home - Dance and Music!« or in short: TAH DAM!
The artists of TAH DAM! come from South Africa, Italy and Mozambique. The group came together through the MusicDance Cape Town project, led by Thalia Laric and Manuela Lucia Tessi since 2018. The project brings together dancers and musicians from different backgrounds and promotes collaboration between the various disciplines. The focus of the work is on compositions that are created in an interdisciplinary manner and in real time.
