PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL | CHECK!

May 26, 2022 16:00 - 16:45

A future with a future
Children's/youth group led by Senait Sebhatleab and Lorena Valdenegro

What is a girl, what is a boy and what am I? The world of children does not turn pink or blue. Under the name Check! is a group of young people from the LGBTIQ* and PoC community who have set themselves the task of rewriting and telling history through dance and movement. They devote particular attention to the topics of racism, discrimination, equality and diversity.

Check! takes place within the Berlin Performing Arts Festival (May 24-29, 2022) takes place, which invites you to discover Berlin's free art and culture scene together with productions from all genres of the performing arts. From the Berlin neighborhood pub to the church, from the Tiny House to the spacious Alexanderplatz, from the Neukölln multi-storey car park to the romantic island of youth, numerous squares, nooks and crannies of the big city are transformed into lively venues and stages. The Oyoun will be the festival center on the first day. Together we would like to address the following questions: How do we want and can we live together in the future? How can solidarity structures be created and maintained in which complex realities of life find space? In workshops and talks, you can get to know collectives and projects that combine art and activism, create communities, create networks and use artistic means to challenge, shape and change society.

Free admission!

You can find more information about the festival program at Oyoun here!

The artists:

Lorena Valdenegro Lorena develops three frames of art: actress, director and theater teacher. Lorena's work revolves around the theme of identity, women and migration. She understands the body as the main element of creation. She sees theater as a tool for developing social skills and self-awareness.

Senait Sebhatleab is a drama teacher. She works with children and young people. Speaking in figurative language is her way of communicating. To shape things for yourself so that you can then express them. You are interested in implementing (serious) topics in a (child) easy way. Digging deeper layer by layer and coming across what needs to be told and implemented. She finds texts, narratives, storytelling and poems exciting.
